WEATHERSFIELD DAY 1/ ROOM REVIEW

With all that is going on with Peter at home, I decided to take a break and do a solo escape.
It is hard now to know how to arrange such escapes, but I settled on Wethersfield, which is quite a distance from the casinos.
At first I was going to do two day in Groton, but just decided to unpack once and stay the 4 nights.
This America's Best Value Inn gives me very nice rooms at $60 a night, even on weekend and holiday nights.

I started from home fairly early having packed the night before, and drove to Foxwoods to play a bit of limit for the afternoon.  The trip is long.  One nice thing about Wethersfield is that going home will be a much shorter drive if I don't gamble on the day I leave.
I played 2-4 and was up at first and then I was down.
The most interesting player was a bantering Filipino woman and I enjoyed her.  Her favorite expression had to do with assigning strikes to other players for infractions.  She told us her mother used to do that.
"That is strike one"  she said.  She enjoyed the game and her banter.
The rest were dull old men with hardly anything to say, and most of that about the game.
I drove to Wethersfield, got settled, and had summer of fresh salad and wraps with cheese.  Then I  went to Mohegan for the 1-1 game I like.  It took me a while to get a seat, but the table was grand.  Some pretty girls, some loose players.
However, I lost there.
My best hand was pocket kings.  The betting went around at one dollar until it got to the Black man two people behind me.  He held queens and bet $7.  I raised to $15, and so eliminated all the other players.  No one improved.
I bet $20 on the flop, checked the turn and called his $20 on the river.  It was a bad bet on his part.  He should have put me on a high pair.
He had the annoying habit of not making clear bets.  His gravel voice obscured whether it was $3 or $6, so we had to wait sometimes for confirmation.  It was intentional.
When the game dwindled at about ten thirty, I left to go to the Hall of Tribes and play some JOB.  There I hit one quad and cashed out $50 ahead.  So for the entire day I lost $74.  Tolerable, if disappointing.
On my long walk through the casino I saw dozens of very pretty young girls, some very animated and joyful, and one young fellow who did a hand stand?? in the aisle.  I enjoyed that.  It was better than the poker.
Some of them were dressed in sheer outer see through shells, almost bedroom clothes.  They were very sexy.  Many girls were dressed up, and delightful.  Very leggy.
On the ride home I got a bit twisted, but I managed with the Garmen GPS.  I had left my phone on and it had lost power.  I did not have the charging wire.  This reminds me again that I need to buy another charging wire for the car.
The ride was easy enough with no traffic, but I could not get a "no highways" setting as that doubled the time.  Once on route 2 West the going was easy, but it took me a while.
I brought along a couple of books on cassette tape and the boom box, so I listened to one of them, a story set in Egypt.

THE ROOM at American's Best Value Inn

Once again for the booking.com price I talked myself into a first floor room, room 101 on the end.
It is very spacious with a full refrigerator, a small microwave, good television (no TCM) plenty of electrical outlets (bring splitters)  a good AC.  The wifi is excellent.  It required no password, but that my be because my computer remembered the code from my last trip.
One area is a large shelf, made larger by an ironing board, and that holds all my luggage.
The bathroom is clean and everything works.
I was comfortable in the kind bed.
Someone upstairs seems to bang a lot.  Strange sorts of noises. However, it did not keep me awake.  I am curious what makes it.  Perhaps it will go away today.
I like being on the end as I know the television will not disturb my neighbors.  It is on the outside wall.
There is no free breakfast, but I never can eat the things they have at those anyway and prefer to bring my own food and eat in front of a sitcom like Mash, or Frasier.
I was happy to bring a thermos of coffee and warm some up here.
I wish I had brought tea or my coffee pot.  I also failed to bring a ceramic plate or spoons.
The first night there was some noise from the upstairs neighbor.  Strange bumpings and bangings.  But I slept through it anyway and there were no such noises the rest of my stay.  It was very quiet.  I especially liked that there were no early fireworks.

STORE

Turning right out of the hotel and staying left rather than getting on the expressway gives me good access to a great little Stop and Save grocery.  With the full refrigerator it was possible to store quite a bit as well as ice to store in the cooler on my way home the last day.
I'm jumping ahead a bit here, but I bought a cooked chicken and ate it over the next few days.  I bought Newman's organic black and green tea in a large box.  They also had many of the healthier cut Columbus sausage slices and I used some to heat up chicken with cheese.  That was very good.
Also, not far away is a liquor store with decent priced wine and even Felippe Segundo.
